Are you getting the sense that your employer does not want you around anymore? Your boss or manager may be trying to get you to quit. He or she may be even taking extreme measures to make your job intolerable.
How can you tell if your boss is trying to force you to quit, and what can you do about it? Here are a few signs and tips.
Negative comments
If you are hearing rude, offensive or teasing remarks toward you more often, this may not be a good sign. Whether your boss says these things directly to you or gossips to other colleagues, it is never a good thing. Even lighthearted “jokes” may showcase doubt and resentment.
Sudden punishments and poor reviews
Job performance reviews can be helpful to keep you on track. But if you suddenly get bad reviews or receive punishments for an infraction even when you are doing your job perfectly, it may be a red flag that your boss wants you gone.
Change in title or reduction in pay
Are you suddenly working in a different position? Is your boss paying you less out of nowhere? This is a direct way for your boss to take something valuable away from you.
Failure to promote
If there is an advancement opportunity and you have all the qualifications for it, you hope to get it. But if your boss hands it to someone else, he or she may want you to leave the company.
What should you do?
Whenever you feel like your boss does not want you there, it can be difficult to handle. Before you quit, it is important to determine whether you are experiencing any type of discrimination or harassment. If your boss is taking action against you because of a protected class, such as race, gender, age or disability, you may be able to take legal action.
